Data Business Analyst
Location: McLean, VA
1+ Year Contract

Immediate new job opening as a Business Analyst that will work onsite at our global client's McLean, VA headquarters. This role will be a part of the Enterprise Information Management team and will help with the deployment of data assets to both the legacy and emerging data warehouses through the four key phases of development:

Requirements Gathering:
o Through a well-defined BRD or user stories, ensure that the needs and wants of the business are documented, thoroughly understood by all stakeholders and available for future review and consumption
o Understand the existing model of the data asset and the changes that need to happen to support the work being defined
o As part of a project, answer or research business questions for the business and development team
o Support the overall team and Project Manager to the best of their ability
o Be a subject matter export on the metadata tools (including SQL) by leveraging them on a daily basis to document and research data lineage, business logic and data assets

Architecture & Development:
o Review and provide feedback to the architecture and build team during data model and solution development to ensure the final deployment will meet current, future and anticipated needs
o Translate technical processes into language and visualizations easily understood by the business in order to facilitate discussions between the technical and business teams
o Explain the impact of business requirements on technical design and explain the impact of technical design on business requirements

o Assist the business and technical teams with document and define test cases by leveraging prior experience, learned best practices and their understanding of known "gotchas" during both technical and user acceptance testing
o Ensuring that non-functional, non-traditional test cases are included in the list of test cases
o Assisting the business with defining success criteria based upon their prior experience, learned best practices and their own understanding of expected differences
o Maintaining and documenting EIM's list of best practices for developing test cases

o Ensuring that documentation in the various platforms is up-to-date and current with all changes and knowledge gleaned during all phases of the project
o Act in a supporting role during any training initiatives which are led by the business
o Ensure that known gaps and wants related to the project are correctly logged in the appropriate areas (Jira, Service Now, SharePoint, etc.) so that all requested work is recorded for future deployment and consideration
o Create and deliver training and documentation for functional requirements during the hand-over to the EIM support team
o Using SharePoint wiki pages, Service Now Knowledge Base articles and Confluence to explain and articulate data ingestion processes (including business processes) in a straight-forward, clear, engaging manner

Required Qualifications
o Knowledge of SQL, systems development life cycle, Agile, waterfall and data warehousing principles
o Ability to work independently with business partners, technical team members and company leaders in a productive and profession manor
o Proven capability to develop documentation (including illustrations) that combine technical and business understanding into a comprehensive view of the how and why
o Aptitude for analyzing complex data load processes and business processes to uncover the fundamental reasons for differences and unexpected values
o Strong experience in guiding business partners through the discovery process to synthesize common ground for functional and non-functional requirements
o Ability to create visual diagrams and written descriptions that document and clearly explain technical and business processes related to data ingestion and assets
o Oracle 11.2, MS Visio, MS SQL Server, MS SharePoint, MS Excel

Preferred Qualifications
o Project management and leadership experience in both Agile and Waterfall methodologies
o Exposure to big data warehousing concepts and tools such as Hadoop, Hive, Zeppelin, Spark and NiFi
o Familiarity and experience with customer relationship management data assets and concepts
o Understanding of master data management and governance principles and activities
o Tableau, JIRA, Confluence, Hadoop, HIVE, Zeppelin, Talend (Master Data Management), Informatica, Tableau, OBIEE, MicroStrategy, Zeppelin, Cognos
