DB2 Database Administrator
Location: Fort Worth, Texas

Exciting new job opening for a fulltime DB2 DBA to work onsite in our client's headquarters in Fort Worth, TX. The DB2 Database Administrator is accountable for the performance, maintenance, synchronization, security, and accessibility of all DB2 database systems with demonstrated proficiency in database replication, backup and restore, performance tuning and scalability. The position will require extensive custom DB2 development on the z/OS platform including stored procedures, views and provides technical support to application developers and end users. This position is accountable for troubleshooting system issues; developing and monitoring scheduled jobs and maintenance plans; and for proactively monitoring the performance of databases.

o Designs, implements and maintains the database architectures enhancing the integrity, security and performance of the database operating environment by collaborating with application developers, server administrators, project management, and end users to accomplish goals and objectives. Provides effective/accurate time estimates based on documented requirements
o Develops, tests, and implements extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) processes from external and internal sources.
o Provides effective support on a 24/7 on-call rotation basis by researching & analyzing issues to determine database related implications, effectively communicating with all impacted parties, and troubleshooting & resolving issues with a sense of urgency to minimize any system downtime.
o Performs regular full and incremental backups of databases while adhering to the Recovery Time and Recovery Point objectives defined by the business. Periodically verify backups (e.g. by restoring to a test system). Participate in Disaster Recovery drills (i.e. bring databases online at DR site).
o Monitors disk space on database and storage servers, CPU and Memory. Identify tuning opportunities for developers and provide tuning advice. Archive data as necessary to keep from using too much disk space.
o Provides guidance/support for the Development Team on a regular basis. This includes collaborating with architects and developers to design and implement business processes.
o Must prepare database documentation, including standards, procedures, best practices and data dictionary(s).
o Must be able to plan, install and test software upgrades and patches where necessary.
o Ensures future growth ramifications are considered in all design decisions, forecasting system and storage requirements to accommodate growth in data storage and performance needs. Continuously evaluates the operating performance of the database environment to ensure maximum performance by proactively monitoring the performance of all databases and by developing and implementing changes to enhance overall performance. Performs ongoing planning and monitoring of database size, performance, and hardware capacity.

o Proven experience with DB2 (version 12 is a plus)
o Expert experience in database Backup, Restore and Recovery procedures
o Experience with z/OS Mainframe platform
o Work collaboratively with other team members and application groups
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively document procedures
o Strong desire and passion to learn new technologies
o IBM DB2 certification(s) are desirable
o Knowledge of competing database platforms
